PTI demands withholding NA-120 by-poll results ‘until reservations addressed’

A day after her defeat in the NA-120 by-poll, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI)’s Dr Yasmin Rashid has demanded the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) to withhold the election results until the party’s reservations are addressed and settled.

“We had pointed out the discrepancies in the votes when the election was announced and we have so far submitted 25 petitions with the ECP against these discrepancies,” the PTI leader told reporters in Lahore on Monday. “I am the one who has suffered this. We were not given a level-playing field by the ECP.”

According to unofficial results, Kulsoom secured 59,413 votes in all, while Dr Yasmin got 46,145.

Vowing to take the top electoral body to court, Rashid said her party wanted to know what action the ECP took over numerous violations of its code of conduct by the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N). “We will not back out until our petitions in the ECP are settled. I’m going to take the ECP to court,” she threatened.

The beleaguered PTI leader said some of the voter record was missing in the ECP data. “This makes some 29,000 votes controversial and no official  results should be announced until these are cleared,” she upheld. “Government’s machinery, including the state-run PTV, was used in the buildup to the NA-120 polls.”
